A group of elven slaves, led by a knight and a mage, threaten the Heroes, but they do not seems inclined to start a fight: they just want them to leave before the Dragon comes back and kills them. Negotiations don't end well, and when the mage blasts the Heroes with a fireball, Cira slaughters most of the opposition with a swarm of magical arrows. While the knights holds the line, the mage goes to alert a trio of ettins from a nearby cave. Already weakened, the Heroes face these monsters too, emerging victorious.
Finally Cira gets some time to speak with her new-found brother, Faelin, who guides them to a safe cave where they can take a breather. After a short rest, they decide to assault the dragon's cave. Unfortunately, the combined powers of Chuth and the wyrmspeaker Neronvain are too much for the weakened Heroes, and Cira is killed and eaten by the dragon. With Arrakas and Tarkin unconscious, Ruthinn sees no other option than to surrender.
Neronvain allows the survivors to leave, to bring a clear message of his superiority to the Council of Waterdeep. Defeated and with heavy hearts, the Heroes depart. When they reach Waterdeep, they have the chance to rest for a tenday, eventually coming before the Council. There they lay out the deal they made with the metallic dragons, and the defeat they suffered because of Chuth and Neronvain. The Council's reactions are mixed, but what's done is done. A misterious message has arrived at the Council, with information about Xonthal's Tower, and the blue dragon Lennithon, bane of the Graywall clan.
