Cira Softblossom

Elf Ranger (Outlander)

Fifty years past, Cira was still a young, carefree elven maiden with an astonishing talent for playing the lyre. This all changed when the village of the Softblossom tribe, far north in the woods of Icewind Dale, was attacked by a green dragon.

The dragon slaughtered many elves, before the hunters managed to send him away, but Cira saw that when the dragon retreated, he clutched in his talon her infant brother!

She set aside her musical studies, and began ranging north, to train her skills as a huntress. There she fought many dangerous beasts, among them a Winter Wolf that had just assaulted a party of dwarven merchants. She saved the dwarves, and they gifted her with a finely crafted crossbow. An unusual weapon for an elf, but she soon realised that with enough training, such a weapon would be even more lethal than an elven bow.

Reputing herself ready, she travelled south to track the green dragon. Eventually her research brought her even further south, to the City of Waterdeep. Rumors were spreading like dragonfire, the dragons had gathered, together with an unholy Cult, to conquer the Sword Coast.

Brother Stonefist

Dwarf Monk (Hermit)

Brother Stonefist spent the last year of his life in silent meditation to achieve unity with the cosmos...

Death (session 22): Killed by the half-dragon Rezmir and her evil sword Hazirawn.

Avis Chee-Khen'Whincks

Aarakocra Monk (Hermit)

Avis had been found when a mere egg, the monks had told him. He and five of his kin were saved after a raid of a nearby village had successfully destroyed their eyrie. Most of the eggs, however, did not hatch. Avis was the only one of his tribe left, as far as he knew. He never really did wonder too much about it. The people of the monastery where he grew up were his kin. The monastery was the only area he'd ever known.

An outpost of the monastery had been robbed of all its precious items and a large amount of its food. It was therefore that Avis had been sent out to see what had happened, accompanied by a fellow monk of the monastery. He was scared, despite the direct surroundings around - and above - the monastery he had never gone anywhere out there. He knew, however, that he had always had a yearning to go out in the world. See if he could ever find any information about what had really happened to his eyrie."

Nethnarei

Tiefling (or maybe halfling?) Sorcerer (Acolyte)

She remembered nothing but the monastery. It was where she had grown up to be the young woman she was now. The monks had taught here everything she knew. Writing, reading, everything you needed to be able to live a normal life in this world. Well, as normal as things could get if you had horns growing from your head.

Nethnarei was left at the monastery’s doorstep as a baby. Most likely abandoned because of her infernal heritage. She could not hide it. The horns growing out of her head made it very clear she was a tiefling. But the monks did not care, they only wanted for Nethnarei to be the best person she could be. And she had been for the first 15-16 years of her life. But then things started happening. Flames would flicker and roar just a little harder around her when she got angry. Water would turn to ice when she was sad, small things at first, but these occurrences grew in severity as Neth grew older. At first she thought it was test from the gods, but as things got more serious, she began to think it was a punishment for her infernal heritage.

But the monks told her otherwise, they told her it was a gift and if she could learn to control that gift, she would be able to do so much good in the world with this gift. So she started to practice, try and see if she could conjure up her powers at will. At first she struggled, but after a while, she started to get the hang of things. The monks praised her and even the villagers of the nearby town started to look forward to her visits, when she would help, talk and amuse the children with her little tricks. But things changed that one day.

She was amusing the kids in the town square, as she had done many times before. She was showing animals in the fire, playing and dancing. Suddenly, her vision blurred, a purple gleam threw itself over the world and next thing she knows, she is standing in the midst of a burned town square.

The monks told her afterwards that they heard a fire roar and when they looked back, her eyes were fully purple and that a giant dragon made of flames laid destruction to the town square. It was only when she slumped lifelessly to the ground that the dragon had faded from existence. They had no choice but to ask her to leave their monastery, for their own safety and that of the townspeople. So now she is on her way into the world, looking for answers concerning her parents & infernal heritage. But most importantly: to try and learn to control her so called ‘gift’.

Draugh

Dragonborn Paladin (Soldier)

Draugh was a descendant of one of the mightiest of dragonkinds, the Green Flight.

Draugh's tribe was called the Green Nomads, for they were Green and nomads. They were nomadic in kind because of the mission and their belief in life. The Green Nomads believed life and death would always have to be balanced, one way or the other. Because of their fearsome look and horrible ancestry the Green Nomads could never dwell anywhere for long.

I am certain this too proved its role in them becoming nomads. One day they ran into another tribe of Dragonborn, most peculiarly the Dragonborn from this tribe were made out of several colours. Black, blue, red, copper and even a green Dragonborn . As is known among all Dragonborn, but not among the lesser races, not all kinds of Dragonborn get along very well. It was therefore very interesting to the Green Nomads to see such a peculiar tribe roaming the planes. The elders of the Green Nomads decided that the other tribe could be no good, they were out of balance, for no Dragonborn of one kind could live next to another. Future, it would seem, would prove them to be right.

Several weeks after the Unbalanced, as they were now called by the Green Nomads, had left they found a gravely wounded Green Dragonborn on their path. As anyone in the same situation would have done they decided to tend to his wounds back in their camp. His body seemed riddled with claw- and scorchmarks. The wounds smelled of sulphur, the mark of a black Dragonborn. Draugh's talents had always more physical of nature. He had thus been assigned to the department that took care of the defense of the tribe.

The elders decided it was time for action, Draugh and his fellow soldiers had to patrol around the tribe to ensure its safety. Half an hour after the soldiers' department from the camp the wounded Dragonborn opened his eyes. He flailed his arms around wildly whilst shouting "Tiamat, Tiamat!". At exactly the same moment the soldiers were attacked by black and red Dragonborn. The vile attackers managed to cut off the tribe from their soldiers by means of fire. Fire! The irony, to be cut off from their friends and family by their own heritage. Few attackers survived, yet fewer defenders stood upright after the attack. Many were burnt to a crisp during the assault. The surviving Green Nomad soldiers quickly came to the aid of their tribe, only to find they had arrived too late.

Every single Green Dragonborn had been killed, all, except the crazed Dragonkind they had found earlier. He was feasting upon the corpses of the fallen, shouting and growling in the honour of Tiamat. Garrin, Draugh's commander and chief, promoted the latter to the rank of Captain in their new order. The Green Nomads were no more, the Green Fist had been born. Their only purpose was to bring balance back to these planes, rest for their fallen family and comrades.

Draugh decided that day that not only balance would be enough but that he would henceforth live life to the fullest. He planned to indulge himself in the world of the lesser races, as long as he would still be able to honour his vow to the Balance of Chaos.

Rake

Human Barbarian (Outlander)

Tall and fierce, Rake has always had a deep connection with the spirits around him. When he started to receive visions from the spirits, he would go for long periods without saying a word, and when he finally spoke, he uttered words of doom.

He predicted a great tragedy for his clan, but his words were not believed. When this doom came to pass, the tribe exiled him, believing he had brought misfortune upon them.

Now he travels the land to avert one more doom; the spirits have told him of a 5-headed goddess trying to make her way into the world of mortals, and of the strife she'll bring upon creation.

Lewion

High Elf Wizard (Acolyte)

You have spent your life dedicated to Oghma, all-seeing god of knowledge, and spent years learning the lore of the multiverse. Through visions delivered in your trances, your god has called you to a new mission.

A goblin tribe has made its lair in an ancient ruin now called Cragmaw Castle, where they have defiled a shrine once sacred to Oghma. Now dedicated to the vile goblin god Maglubiyet, the altar is an offense to Oghma that must not stand.

You’re sure Oghma has greater things in store for you if you can complete this quest. In the meantime, your visions suggest that Sister Garaele—a priest of Tymora, the goddess of luck—can aid you in the town of Phandalin.

Death (session 23): Killed by Azbara Jos and Rath Modar, two Red Wizards from Thay at the service of the Cult of the Dragon.

Jalazar

Human Fighter (Noble)

Your family is no stranger to wealth, power, and privilege. In the glory days of Neverwinter, your parents were the count and countess of Corlinn Hill, a large estate located in the hills northeast of the city. But Mount Hotenow erupted thirty years ago, devastating Neverwinter and erasing Corlinn Hill from the map.

Instead of growing up on an estate, you were raised in a small but comfortable town house in Waterdeep. As an adult, you stand to inherit a meaningless title and little else.

Numo Rockseeker

Dwarf Cleric (Soldier)

Trained as a soldier on the island of Mintarn, you traveled to Neverwinter as part of a mercenary company that serves as both army and city watch. You grew disillusioned with your fellow soldiers, who seem to enjoy their authority at the expense of the people they’re supposed to protect.

Everything came to a head recently, when you disobeyed an order and followed your conscience. You were suspended from active duty, though you kept your rank and your connection to the mercenaries. Since then, you have devoted yourself to your deity.

Kerrik "Bluebane"

Human Fighter (Folk Hero)

Your parents lived in the prosperous village of Thundertree, east of the city of Neverwinter and at the edge of the Neverwinter Wood. But when nearby Mount Hotenow erupted thirty years ago, your parents fled, carrying you in your infancy. Your family drifted from village to village around the region, finding work as servants or laborers where they could.

You’ve spent the last few years in Neverwinter as a porter and laborer at the city’s bustling docks. But it’s clear to you and everyone around you that you are destined for much more. You stood up to an abusive ship captain once, so other dockworkers look up to you. Someday, you’ll come into your own. You’ll be a hero.
