Heroes: Olo, Ruthinn, Tarkin
The message received by the Council is from Iskander, a wizard of the Cult of the Dragon willing to defect. He offers the Blue Dragon Mask in exchange for rescue from the Cult's clutches. He requests that the Heroes are sent to Xonthal's Tower to save him. It seems obvious to all at the Council that this may well be a trap, but the Heroes are set on facing the Blue Dragon Lennithon, and accept the risky mission.
Rian Nightshade from the Zentharim informs the Council that she has received an offer from the Thayian embassy to discuss a possible alliance. The Red Wizards are not happy with the alliance between their felow mage Rath Modar and the Cult. While several council members are worried about such an alliance, the Heroes decide they will speak with the Thay ambassador, but only after they've returned from Xonthal's Tower.
In the next few days, the Heroes make arrangememnts for their travel, meeting an old adventuring companion of Olo, the barbarian Rake, who accepts to travel with them to smash more Cultist's skulls.
On the road again, a day or two before reaching Daggerford the Heroes are assaulted by yugoloth assassins, led by Nach-tirox, a huge black dragon. With the clever use of ropes and grappling hooks, and the deadly aim of Olo, the Heroes maange to keep the dragon on the ground, until Ruthinn summons the power of his goddess and strangles the wyrm in the radiant energy of his spiritual weapon spell.

The Heroes arrange for river transport in Daggerford, and eventually reach the village of Xonthal's Tower, a quite town just outside of the huge hedge maze surrounding the Tower itself. Percehd on the top of the tower, they spot the Blue Dragon Lennithon, though the mighty beast does not seem to pay any attention to the town. The townsfolk keep away from the maze, since most of those venturing in it do not return, or return as raving lunatics.
Obviously, the Heroes are not troubled by such rumors, and after a good rest they venture into the hedge maze. As they make their first steps inside, they spot a figure waving and shouting at them from a balcony: Iskander warns them that the Cult knows of their presence, but he will leave a "key" for them at the entrance.
When the wizard is out of sight, the Heroes proceed on the path ahead of them.
