The Heroes continue the exploration of the tunnels, coming into contact with the monstrous yuan-ti. After killing many of them, and their lizardfolk slaves, they enter the main temple, where they find their leader, a yuan-ti abomination.
Varram, the dwarven Wearer of Purple they were looking for, is in her clutches. The abomination makes a deal with the Heroes: she will hand Varram over, if they leave immediately without killing any more yuan-ti. The Heroes accept, take the unconscious Varram, and leave the yuan-ti lair.
After a night of rest in the Tomb of Diderius, they get a chance to interrogate Varram. He tells them he sought the knowledge of Diderius to find bigger treasures for his queen, the goddess Tiamat. He also claims that the yuan-ti abomination has stolen his White Dragon Mask, an important artifact necessary to summon Tiamat.
The Heroes decide to go back to the yuan-ti, and kill them all in order to recover the mask. But after they're all dead, the mask is nowhere to be found. When they confront Varram again, they realize he goaded them into killing the yuan-ti. In truth, he came to the Tomb of Diderius because he lost his White Dragon Mask, and needed a way to find it back. Unfortunately, the mask is already back into the clutches of the Cult, who now seek Varram to punish him.
The former cultists leader is willing to switch sides, and share important information about the Cult, in exchange for his life and protection from his former allies. The Heroes tie him up securely, and begin to plan their trip to Waterdeep, where the Order of the Gauntlet awaits them.
