With the help of the grateful Ice Hunters, the Heroes transfer the dragon's loot and Maccath's library to to the Frostskimmr, and leave the Sea of Moving Ice. They stop first at Luskan, where Maccath can report to the Arcane Brotherhood about her return. While the Heroes rest in a local inn, a strike force of the Cult of the Dragon attacks them, in retaliation for their meddling with their affairs. The Heroes defeat the attackers, and capture the half-dragon leading them. From him, they learn the location of Xonthal's Tower, where the dragon Lennithon is said to make lair.
After a few days, the Heroes sail away with Maccath, bound to Waterdeep. They arrive to find many cheering crowds, excited for the return of Lady Laeral Silverhand, one of the Chosen of Mystra, and new Opel Lord of Waterdeep. At the Council, Maccath reveals what she knows about the Drakkhorn, and new leads are given to the Heroes.
Delaan Winterhound reports on the excalating attacks of the Cultists in the Misty Forest, urging the Council to send the Heroes to investigate.
A special guest is at the Council, a silver dragon in human form, there to extend an invitation to the Council to meet the Metallic Dragons of the Nether Mountians, in order to discuss a possible alliance. After much deliberating, the Heroes decide to tackle this issue first, in order to secure the help of such mighty allies. The day after, the silver dragon Otaaryliakkarnos allows the Heroes to ride on her back, then jumps into the air, flying high, bound to the north-east.
