The Heroes travel on dragon-back to the Nether Mountains, where they are welcomed by the gathered metallic dragons. The dragons hold several grudges against the elves and dwarves of old, and have their doubts about the morality of the mortal races. But after several concessions, and the promise of a considerable part of the spoils of war, the dragons accept to join the Council of Waterdeep in the conflict to come.
Back in Waterdeep, the Heroes report to Ontharr Frume, but the Council is not in session. Delaan Winterhound contacts them, asking to investigate the latest attacks on the Misty Forest. In the wood elf village of Althand, they discover that the current warden is actually allied with the wyrmspeaker leading the green dragon assaults. When Ruthinn raises the warden's wife from the dead, he revelas all he knows about the dragon and its rider, sending the Heroes on the right path to find its lair.
As they travel southeast, they have a chance encounter with an elven druid. Thanks to his respectul behavior, Ruthinn receives a gift from her, and she calls a few of her animal friends to guide the Heroes to the lair of the dragon. As they proceed in their travels, the forest becomes darker, and a canopy of webs hangs above them.
